Detroit Sports Nation posted a rumor 6 days ago that Steve Yzerman offered a first round 2022 pick and Oliwer Kaski for Jesse Puljujarvi. You can read it about it here

I cannot find a second source with this same information. It appears, at least in part, the basis for the rumor is founded in this tweet:
Detroit Sports Nation had a rough translation saying basically the Wings were offering Kaski and a 2022 first round pick. Interesting. I’d like to thank a good friend “the Michigan Mule” for the heads up on this one. Much appreciated.
To be fair, 6 months ago DSN speculated a trade of Anthony Mantha for Ryan Nugent Hopkins. That seemed far off at the time, and even further off now. Mantha could well be Detroit’s first 40 goal scorer in more than a decade. So, please treat this with a grain of salt.
The meat of the rumor, Puljujarvi, is fascinating. On a line with Fabbri and Athanasiou, that could be an exciting prospect (A.A. would have to move back to center). JP has a desire to be around Finnish players, so perhaps Filppula could help with that transition. Yzerman seems to be very aware of relationships and chemistry. If an offer were made for Edmonton’s former 4th overall pick, the GM would have an immediate feel for where he would fit.
The basic elements seem off in this. Will Detroit be an improved enough team in 21-22 that they would risk a top 5 or 6 pick? Oliwer Kaski hasn’t seen any NHL action yet this season, and has produced 2 goals and 2 assists in 12 games for Grand Rapids. Nothing jumps off the page there. This, most likely, is a phantom rumor.
Still, what do you think of the offer? Puljujarvi could be a boost for the team, certainly. Where would you slot him, and what do you think a reasonable trade would look like? I look forward to your comments!
