I think it will be a fairly tight race between Ottawa and Detroit but expect the former to finish lower.

The Senators are two points out of dead last in the NHL despite ranking top-15 in both shooting percentage and save percentage at 5v5.

Call me crazy but I don’t see a team with Connor Brown leading the charge (up front) in 5v5 ice time scoring at anything close to an above average clip over the long haul.

While Anders Nilsson is off to an excellent start, he’s probably going to come down to earth a little bit and Craig Anderson is not close to what he once was – especially playing behind such a shaky defense. I don’t see their goaltending remaining anywhere close to average, either.

This team just doesn’t have much talent. There’s a reason they have 13 points, even with percentages working in their favor. When that stops, they should really bottom out.

The New York Islanders? Just kidding. The Islanders are not the team people think they are, but they are clearly not going to live up to my prediction of finishing last in the NHL. Too bad!

The team that will finish last in the East is the Ottawa Senators. All their competitors have better players. The Red Wings have two elite forwards, the Devils have three, the Rangers can't possibly remain this bad, and while the Blue Jackets are probably just as bad as the Sens, they won't have to play Toronto, Boston and Tampa so much. It will take a lot of luck and bad play for someone else to overcome the Senators for last place in the east.
