Thoughts Around the League (Standings, Sweden, Trades)

The Red Wings made a great trade to get the very talented Robby Fabbri from the Blues for next to nothing.

Knowing it was a smart trade, I selected Fabbri in my DFS last night, he scored twice, and I turned $1.50 into there bucks.

Heyo!

The NHL must have the worst marketing dept. in the world. I write about hockey seven days a week, on multiple websites, I run my own hockey blog, and read a preposterous amount of information about the NHL, I have NHL Centre Ice and watch a divorce threatening amount of games, and I discuss the NHL almost non stop. I also participate in three hockey pools, and DFS.

So how did I just learn yesterday - when I looked at my phone to set my lines - that the NHL was playing a 2 PM game in Sweden?

Clearly I'd know if the Leafs or Coyotes were playing in Sweden, but still, I don't see how I could have missed this information. Additionally, the same thing happened earlier in the year when after the Leafs game I was surprised to see the Jets and Flames playing outside.

What is the point of these games if I am not made aware of them?

How do the Islanders do it?

This is insanity. You can't explain it with coaching, you can't explain it with their roster. The frustrating part is that their GM is so bad , such a fraud, and this makes him look so good. I still think they'll have to go on a prolonged losing streak and miss the playoffs - a balance to the universe demands it - but whatever, it's honestly crazy.

At a certain point, even I have to admit they're not the worst team in the league, but the best team? I don't think so.

I ordered a cd so long ago that I forgot, and yesterday it just randomly showed up. What an experience!! It's the best when that happend. You can't get that feeling from streaming.

The CD was from Canadian power-pop legends Thrush Hermit (shown above). One of the great things about Canada is all the amazing bands that never made it anywhere else.

Another thing the NHL has to get better it is scheduling. The Leafs are about to embark on their fifth back-to-back game of the season, while the Bruins have played one.

In the first four times it happened, the other team was well rested.

Obviously this will balance out later in the year, but come on.

Finally, everyone talks about how improved the Oilers are, but Arizona is 5th in the division and can be in first if they win their two games in hand, while the Ducks are in 6th and could overtake the Oilers by next week.

It's nuts.
