Three takeaways:

1. Jakub Vrana – Boy is this kid sizzling hot! He scored two goals in the first period against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. He then recorded his first career hat trick Sunday against Calgary. This production earned him NHL honors of second star of the week! He is the fastest guy on the ice when he is out there and has a lethal shot. Vrana makes 3.35 mil/year and is a RFA in 2021-2022. He will likely demand a solid pay increase if this production keeps up. More on the Cap situation another time but the Capitals will need to work some magic to keep the core together.

2. Streaking – The Capitals are 8-0-1 their last nine games and are arguably the most complete team in the league. Fridays dominating 6-1 win over a strong Buffalo squad was a statement win and reaffirms to me the boys in red are legit. The Capitals Record is 11-2-3 (25 Points). They currently sit #1 in the League over Boston (24 points) but have played two extra games.

3. District of Champions
– The Washington Nationals continued their World Series victory tour and attended the game on Sunday against the Calgary Flames. I can only assume the Capitals players wanted to put on a good show for the Nats players. I’ll take any extra motivation we can get. The Nationals are doing their best Capitals impression and they are partying their butts off! Notable moments included shirtless Zamboni rides, beer funneling to fans in the crowd from the suite, and post-game piggy back rides. The Nationals supported the Caps when they won the cup and the Capitals reciprocated as the Nationals made their run. It has been special to witness the camaraderie between the two clubs.
