Matthews getting ‘cheeky’ in the desert

So you have a fun night out on the town drinking with your buddy’s in the couple months you have off before you head back to Toronto to play some hockey. You’re a stud, making the big bucks and well; you got a little tipsy and made a bad decision.

NOT A BIG DEAL.

I don’t condone what Matthews and his buddy’s got up to, but I also think its being blown way out of proportion! In case you missed the story; Matthews (after a few drinks) tried to open the security guard’s door on her vehicle. The door was locked, the lady was “doing paper work” (likely on her phone), and Auston and the boys startled her. I guess he thought it would be funny if he showed his bare butt cheeks and now here we are a week from opening night and Matthews has a bit of an issue to deal with.

It would be a good time to sign a stick, jersey and have someone deliver the goods to the security guard with some flowers, chocolates and a card saying how sorry he is. Maybe even line up some tickets for a game in Arizona? Make it happen and let’s get this drama taken care of.

If the Maple Leafs were contemplating giving Auston the Captaincy opening night could this but a hold on that movement? Or is John Tavares the plan all along and this won’t matter anyway?

Either way, I can’t see this being a big deal but our boy Matthews has to be more careful. He’s a professional now and as he’s still young you can’t totally blame the guy for having fun goofing around with his buddy’s. Keep the pants on Auston (they are usually pretty tight anyways!).

Rumour has it Mitch Marner has contacted Arizona and is looking for the same deal Auston get’s with this charge. (joke)

No kidding here, the Leafs have cut Neuvirth and it looks like they will be going with Hutchinson as their #2 this year between the pipes. I had a good feeling about Hutch going into preseason and his only weakness is his glove. Perhaps some coaching tips from the Leafs staff will help improve the right handed glove of Mr. Hutchinson.

The Leafs will host the Montreal Canadiens tonight after shutting them out 3-0 on Monday night. Hutchinson was stellar and the Leafs looked pretty good considering who the iced. Petan impressed me throughout the game as did Korshkov who scored two goals for the Leafs and really stood out. He has some try-hard-syndrome going on and I love every second of it. Perhaps he will be the hardest decision for Babcock and the Leafs coaching staff. Yeah it’s only for a fourth line role (to start) but you have to start somewhere and this team is loaded up front.

Who’d have thought the Leafs have too many quality forwards? What a change five years can make; The Shanaplan is in full effect and blossoming ever so beautifully.

Get ready for a power lineup tonight as the Leafs look to crush the Habs and set the tone for the season against their long time rival.

Thanks for reading, enjoy tonight’s game.

ONE week to go…puck drop!
