Coyotes 2019-20 Predictions

The Coyotes are having one of the most boring training camps I can remember trying to cover.

So far they're still rocking about 50 players, bu they played a split squad double game against the Kings on Tuesday and don't have another game until tomorrow.

There was news of a minor Vinnie Hinostroza injury, but really, all has been quite. I think it's because there really aren't that many jobs open, barring a shock like Nick Merkely pushing a more established player out.

I do hope that both Conner Garlund and Barrett Hayton make it, but I think it's kind of expected that they will.

So with a lack of interesting story lines developing, here's some predictions for the upcoming season.

1. The Coyotes miss the Playoffs.

I want them to make it, obviously, but I don't see how they can repeat last year's goaltending, and if they can't, the amount of offense they'd have to increase is insane.

2. Phil Kessel will score 70 points.

The guy is an enigma, so who really knows? I don't think we can expect 32 year old Phil Kessel to defy age forever, and now he's on a bad team with no elite players to a) take away the other teams best defenders or b) accept his passes and pass to him.

If Max Domi is the real deal - which I doubt - then going from a 22 year old star to a 32 year old ex-star is a bad look.

Then again, if kessel outproduces Domi, it's a win.

3. Alex Galchenyuk will crush it in Pittsburgh

It's amazing what not having the pressure to develop into a franchise player, good health, and playing on a team with Crosby and Malkin will do for a guy's career.

4. Raanta is the starting goalie

If he's healthy, there ain'[t gonna be no platoon.

5. Chychrun breaks out, usurps OEL as team's best defender.

6. John Chayka makes a big trade before the season starts

He can't possibly think he's done enough to upgrade the teams scoring. For that to be true, Kessel will have to be a ppg player, while Keller, Dvorak, Fischer ,Schmaltz and Hayton all take massive steps forward.

Good luck with that.
