There are stars aligning as we wait for outcome to happen of both the Mitch Marner signing and the naming of the next Maple Leafs Captain.

Today is the day!!?

No real source to be mentioned but there are certainly some rumblings of a contract being discussed for Marner as well as the naming of Captain. All signs are pointing to the Leafs giving Auston Matthews the big C on his chest. But there is still hope for those hoping for Captain Morgan to have the honor.

Either is a great choice and the Leafs will finally feel like a team; a full team. Something about having that C on someone’s chest that really brings the team together. Someone who is going to lead the team to victory, stand up for a teammate, score a huge goal, lay a huge hit; whatever he has to do to get the job done.

I’m looking forward to seeing who will represent the Buds with the Captaincy; I think Auston Matthews. After all, he is growing his mustache in Wendel's honor!

As for Marner, I think talks are getting serious and both he and the Leafs want to get this done and now. No doubt Mitch is feeling the heat right now and you can bet he doesn’t want to let his fans or teammates down by missing any time.

Stunting the Leafs run this year would be terrible.

As we all know the cap puts a lot of stress on teams to get the job done in their window of opportunity. More often than not you only have a handful of ‘A’ grade years to put together a roster that can continuously have a great chance of being the best out of 31 teams.

The Cup is a long journey and this just may be the Leafs best shot at it; this year.

Marner and Dubas need to get a deal done that works for both sides and put this behind us. We need Mitch with the team as he’s a vital piece to the organization now and in the future. I can’t see Marner not wanting to sign in Toronto so I won’t even go there; he wants to be a Maple Leaf for a long time to come. I’m still hopeful they are able to strike a long term deal and ink Mitch in for seven or eight years, somewhere around ten million dollars a season.

I think today is the day for both to happen.

Let’s see what the closing bell brings on this week, happy Friday.

Thanks for reading, enjoy your weekend.
