The Winnipeg Jets have signed Josh Morrissey to an 8 year 50 million dollar extension that works out to an average of 6.25 million per year.

Thanks to a tweet from Jets Centric Podcast you can see there likely is a hedge on lockout sooner and later for Morrissey in salary.

This has to be seen as an incredible value for the Jets after the two sidestep two the near term bring last fall at the conclusion of Morrissey's entry-level deal. A quick look at some comparable using the great RAPM charts from Evolving-Hockey show Morrissey as a neither a true standout nor detriment to his team as a player. What he is is dependable and does not hurt the team, something that has been obvious to Jets fans for some time now.

AT 6.25 Million AAV Morrissey represents a very solid deal for the Jets and with his current salary and Kulikov coming off the books for next year there is space and not all of it used up.

The Jets still have work to do and it's obvious who- Laine and Connor. I wonder if this puts a little pressure on demands or not? Given the value of goals in contract valuations it's likely a non-issue but Jets fans can dream.
