Good news out of the kingdom today when it was announced that Jack Campbell has signed a two-year, $3.3 M extension with the Kings.

From the Kings site:

"His contract will go into effect at the start of the 2020-21 season and carries an AAV of $1.65 million.

The 27-year-old Campbell (born Jan. 9, 1992) appeared in 31 games last season with the Kings, where he posted a 10-14-1 record in a career-high 25 starts, a .928 save percentage, 2.30 goals-against average and two shutouts.

Among goalies who appeared in at least 25 games last season, the Port Huron, Mich. native ranked third in save percentage and fifth in goals-against average."

As a fan of Soupy, I like this news. I thought he was solid last year and played with confidence and poise - showing that he might possess the capability of being the number one for this team.

While it's hard to think about not having Quick in net (as we've all discussed a bunch over this summer), if they could move him, I'd be fine with a Campbell/Petersen combo in the blue paint. Actually, I'd really like to see that shake out. Let's see what Campbell can do as the guy and let Petersen gain more experience in a backup role. Now more than ever is the time to run the experiment.

The signing certainly makes it seem like a move involving Quick could be a possibility, as Jewels of the Crown also points out:

"Campbell’s extension muddies the water a bit when it comes to the Kings’ plan in net in the future. Petersen has one more season of being waiver-exempt, but after this season, the flexibility to move him freely between the NHL and AHL without danger of being claimed on waivers will be lost. The commitment to both Campbell and Petersen, who signed a three-year extension earlier in the summer, shows that the team could be paving the way for a future without Jonathan Quick."

I could be wrong, but I think this signing now sees LA with three goalies signed for the next three years. As such, it should be interesting to watch what Blake and co. have planned moving forward - especially in regards to Quick...

Rookie Faceoff

Did anyone get a chance to get out to the Rookie Faceoff in Anaheim tonight? If so, please feel free to chime in with your recap/thoughts...would love to hear about it!

Thanks and have a good rest of your weekend.

Go, Kings, Go!
