In this edition of the hotstove, we share our picks for the Vezina Trophy in 2019-20.

Todd Cordell

I'm going with John Gibson again this season.

He posted a .924 save percentage in 2016-17, a .926 save percentage in 2017-18, and a .917 save percentage last year despite a) the Ducks being an absolute tire fire and; b) league average SV% dropping to .905.

You can make a legitimate case he is the top goaltender in the league. I mean, zero starters have bested him in save percentage (.922SV%) over the last three seasons and that's a pretty good indicator of talent.

If Anaheim is somewhat respectable, and Gibson continues to excel, you'd have to think he'll *finally* get his due.

Then again, the last few years of dominance haven't gotten him very far with the voters (NHL GMs). Maybe they'll catch on this year!

James Tanner

I think it's going to be Freddie Andersen.

He has always been one of the NHL's best second tier goalies - no one really puts him in with Bobrovsky or Price - and I think this is the year he gets his due.

Andersen will be playing behind the best team that anyone has ever built in the salary cap era, and with the Leafs cake-walking to a President's Trophy, Andersen and his 40 wins will be a slam dunk come year end.

Michael Stuart

This is John Gibson's year. It has to be, right?

According to Corsica, between 2016-17 and 2018-19, only one goalie who played more than 3,000 minutes during that span earned his team more wins above replacement than John Gibson. He has been and continues to be the gold standard when it comes to goaltending in the National Hockey League.

Each year it seems like more and more people clue in to just how good he is, so my prediction is that the GMs finally get caught up and award Gibson with the Vezina this season.

Sean Maloughney

Only once since the post lockout era has a goalie won back to back Vezina Trophy's with Martin Brodeur doing it in 06/07 and 07/08 and this season we will see Andrei Vasilevskiy repeat. The 25 year old goaltender is just starting to enter his prime yet has posted two seasons of .920 SV% or better the last two years. The fact that the team in front of him should win another President's Trophy certain helps as well.

Goalies are voodoo though and if I had to pick a runner up I would go with Matt Murray because it seems as though people have forgotten he is still really really good.
