Wild Better Today

Now that the dust has settled a bit from the flurry of activity of July 1st and free agent frenzy, we can look at what is ahead

Paul Fenton has some contract work to do with his RFA group of forwards, Kevin Fiala, Ryan Donato, and Joel Eriksson Ek all of which should get reasonable bridge deals.

The fact that Fentin explored trading Jason Zucker and did not pull the trigger, is a bit blown out of proportion. Had Fenton not explored the options that to me would have been an indictment of the GM for not doing his due diligence.

Zucker cannot be hurt by the procedure either as he knew this was a very real scenario once he signed the contract with the limited movement clause in place.

Now that we have passed the July 1st deadline Zucker is part of the Wild for the foreseeable future. That is good news of course for all parties involved. The right deal did not present itself and Zucker remains part of the solution here in Minnesota.

The additions made yesterday with Zuccarello and Hartman give the Wild greater depth and character. Both players bring intangibles that the Wild lack.

Hartman is an agitator who likes to go to the net hard. He does not get cheated and can score a little bit as well.

Zuccarello is a playmaker that will make those around him better. Boudreau will love to coach Mats and his addition will have a positive impact on the Wild offense that was bear non existent after Matt Dumba went out last December.

Speaking of Dumba, he will be back along with Ryan Suter, Jared Spurgeon, and Jonas Brodin formulating one of the best top four units in the NHL. Nick Seeler and Greg Pateryn form the third pair and here is hoping that Fenton resigns Brad Hunt who was very effective after coming over from Vegas.

Not sure if Fenton is in the market for more or if he is playing the wait and see game. Either way the Wild are a better team today than they were at the conclusion of this past season. I am not one that gets upset over the lack of an 'impact" player signing as there were only a couple of those available and the contracts that were doled out do not warrant the return.
