Reimer Traded to Canes Prior to Frenzy

The Cats moved goalie James Reimer to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for goaltender Scott Darling and a sixth round pick (via Buffalo Sabres).

This move came a day before July 1 - when free agents can officially start signing with teams.

The Panthers immediately placed Darling on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying him out. Courtesy of Litter Box Cats, we have a nice breakdown of how the last two years of Darling's contract will look like - stretched over the next four years:

2019-20: $1.23 M
2020-21: $2.33 M
2021-22: $1.18 M
2022-23: $1.18 M

Many sources now have the Cats targeting the highly-touted Milhouse Van Houten from the Kwik-E-Mart Gougers.

Just joking. But seriously...

The Cats now have a little over $25 M in cap space and with no Lu or Reimer, they have no starting goalie.

That all changes tomorrow.

The combination of Lu's retirement, the Reimer move today, and many months of rumors, seem to point to Florida being the destination for Bob.

But there's still some out there saying the Islanders are still in the running for both Bob and Panarin - or possibly just the Bread man.

However things shake out, one thing's for sure: Tallon is very confident in what tomorrow will bring. As evidenced by his comments following today's scrimmage:

"We're going to be very successful moving forward. I like our plan. I think it's going to be a real positive day for us tomorrow." - per FloridaPanthers.com

Adding:

"Everyone that we've talked to, they really like the direction we're headed, with the commitment from [Panthers owner] Vinnie Viola and the fact that he wants to be a cap team, with bringing Joel in, and with the players that we have in our system. We have a lot of great players as well that are coming. We've got a great nucleus...Everyone that we've spoken with that we want to come here are really impressed with what we're doing and the team that we have." - per FloridaPanthers.com

And with that...we're now hours away from seeing what Tallon and Co. do in the 2019 Free Agency period - arguably one of, if not the most important, in franchise history?

I'll be back when the dust settles tomorrow to recap all the signings/moves...

Happy (early) Holidays!

Go Panthers!
