The PK fallout

The trade of PK Subban has still got Pred Nation tongues wagging. I know it is the first domino of a few more to fall, but it still was a bit shocking. BTW… rumors have already started that Subban has wrecked the New Jersey locker room and is being shopped.

OK… I am kidding… but you know that is coming. I put the over/under of these types of rumors starting at Christmas… and I am taking the under. The haters just won’t be able to resist, they have to be right that a personality cannot be successful in hockey… especially PK Subban. After all… Brian Boyle and Kyle Turris must’ve been lying to Devils GM Ray Shero when they told him what a great guy in the room Subban is. After all, we know that Subban is a bad guy… because the haters say he is.

The haters are simply fascinating, and a real indictment of the “old school” hockey attitude that has prevented progress in this game we all love so much.

Subban dances during a pregame skate… The haters (I am looking at you Mike Milbury) say “it’s wrong and disrespectful.”

Subban powers through an injury plagued season… The haters say “he ain’t earning his money.”

Subban donates money… the haters say “so what?”

Subban donates more money... the haters say "he's just showing off"

Subban is the one of the best players on the ice for three separate playoff runs in Nashville… the haters say…

Crickets…

I am not saying that the NHL needs to be a personality driven league however, the NHL needs more personality, not less… but the old school haters continue to try and hammer it out of the game. The NHL could use a few more PK’s… not less. But the haters won’t stop.

I can only share my personal experience with PK. He is gregarious, outgoing and exudes fun. He would always strike up a bit of a chat when he was in the penalty box, sometimes about the penalty… sometimes about the game… sometimes about something completely unrelated. See him outside the rink, always a handshake and a hearty greeting. I never saw him let the haters get to him.

I watched him build bridges instead of tear them down. His Blueline Buddies program helped bring the law enforcement and inner city communities closer together during a time when it wasn’t hip to do it and he did it by using hockey as a unifier. Something the haters don’t understand.

The simple fact, is that PK Subban helped elevate Nashville as a hockey market, he helped bring new fans to Bridgestone Arena and brought star power to the Predators and I thank him for it. I wish PK all the best in New Jersey, he will certainly bring his brand of fun, community involvement and excellent defense to Newark.

Thanks for all you’ve done in Smashville PK.
