The Arizona Coyotes moved up from 14th to 11th in the NHL Entry Draft last night.
The Coyotes used the pick to select Swedish Defenseman Victor Soderstrom.
Most draft boards had him between 10-20th, with only a few (notably Corey Pronman) ranking him lower.
The Coyotes were enamored with him, and called compared his abilities as a teenager in the Swedish Elite League to Rasmus Dahlin (awesome), and Adam Larson (not so much).
John Chayka called him a premium player at a premium position.
The Coyotes do things their own way. Last year they went well off the board to pick Barrett Hayton, and this year they moved up to select a player that might have been there when they picked anyways.
The fact that they'd sacrifice the #45 pick to move up three spots indicates that they really do love this player.
The Coyotes blue line could look amazing in short order if Pierre-Oliver Joseph and Victor Soderstrom join Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Jacob Chychrun in the NHL.
