Upping the ante...

Today is one of the pinnacle events of silly season… it’s time for the NHL Entry Draft and with all of the GM’s in one city, the rumors are flying hot and heavy… and the Nashville Predators are at the center of a few of them.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few trades happen today as teams jockey for position for the players they want to draft. I don’t anticipate Nashville being a big player here as New Jersey and the Rangers won’t trade for the 1 or 2 slot.

But you never know what may happen on draft day… a lot of us remember the Hornqvist for Neal trade.

I think the bigger bang may come from July 1.

The UFA’s that we hear are on the radar.

Anders Lee – With a couple of UFA’s to sign, Anders may be the odd man out with the Islanders. With the crazy money being tossed around, he is a potentially a candidate to be overpaid. A solid center that would be a solid add.

Matt Duchene – I just don’t think he ends up in Nashville. The dollars will be too high for a player that has similar career stats to existing players on the team.

Corey Perry – I know Vince Gill and most of Smashville is shuddering, Zack was a proponent of this on Wednesday’s SlapShot Radio season finale… and after reading the article about him on NHL.com, I am coming around a bit. Sure, Smashville may have to swallow hard but, a motivated Corey Perry could be a nice add.

And the PK trade rumors just won’t stop… I'll be honest... I don't buy them... but never discount a potential blockbuster!
