THE BUZZ – Tampa has to open up cap space to re-sign RFA’s Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat and Jonathan Drouin this summer. They could move out forward Valtteri Filppula or defenseman Jason Garrison, who have one year left on their current deals.
Buffalo - ESPN’s Craig Custance
that activity picking up with Sabres after weekend losses to Colorado and Arizona have put them further behind in the playoff race, but that red-hot winger Evander Kane has not been discussed.
THE BUZZ – Sabres have rental defensemen in Cody Franson and Dmitri Kulikov that will likely be moved for draft picks, the question is will GM Tim Murray go further and field offers for Kane from teams that strike out on Matt Duchene.
Red Wings – Aaron Ward reports that Detroit
has a decision to make on defenseman Brendan Smith if they can’t get him re-signed. A new contract says Ward would likely to a multi-year deal at $3.75 Million per season.
