The Columbus Blue Jackets continue to be public, progressive, and controversial in their media transition to league run with the recent and unfortunate departures of radio host Bob McElliott and insider Jeff Svoboda.
The only truly open and verified Columbus sources left are Aaron Portzline of the Athletic, who has seen every move in Ohio since their inception, and Mark Scheig.
Besides independent run media and the best fan base in hockey, information is starting to became increasingly impossible to collect on this administration as they go from sharing all the tea to powering all the way down.
While Columbus is public with this, the questions remain if the other organizations around the league moving to this model will follow suit, or if the Jackets are an anomaly and scapegoat of suffering and despair in this hockey world.
Columbus is trying to keep up with the times and have been progressively outward about these moves, and the criticism has not been received well.
With the connections to team continuing to be trimmed in these tough times, there’s room in the market for independent writers in the city, online forums, and video opportunities for fans to step up and influence change.
