OHL Goaltender Makes Headlines For All The Wrong Reasons (nhl news)

You've seen compelling endings to playoff overtimes, and yes, you've seen penalties in overtime that led to a game-winning power-play goal. But you've never witnessed a finish to a playoff OT contest like this one. The Peterborough Petes and North Bay Battalion are battling in the first round of the OHL playoffs. Game 3 of the best-of-seven set was heading to OT, with both the game and the series deadlocked at 1-1.

Late into the first overtime, a scuffle broke out behind the North Bay net. Just when it appeared as if cooler heads were going to prevail, North Bay goalie Mike McIvor skated behind his net to retrieve his paddle. After picking it up and about to skate around the other side of his net, McIvor inexplicably punched Peterborough's Francis Parish in the face with his blocker, knocking Parish to the ice.

Game officials assessed McIvor a match penalty for roughing. He was out of the game, forcing backup Jack Lisson to come in off the bench cold.

Barely two minutes into the game and on the second shot he faced, Peterborough's Kieron Walton beat Lisson on the power play for the game-winning OT marker and a 2-1 Petes victory. It was the second straight OT win for Peterborough and the second straight OT winner scored by Walton.

Oddly enough, McIvor, who made 41 saves on 42 shots, was named the game's third star.

Game 4 of the series goes Tuesday in North Bay.
