Same S*** Same Toilet
Devils hockey is back...unfortunately. As the weather finally begins to change here in the tri-state area, the deficient Devils play does not.
It's the same story with New Jersey that we have spoke on for several years here. The Devils still can't score, lack depth on offense, give up goals in clusters and at bad times, talk about making trades but never do.
So now what? With the trade deadline just a week away, do the Devils let Tom Fitzgerald make the roster/future altering trades that are rumored if they believe he's not in their future? I would think not. So is his job safer than it should be? Or is it again a case of ownership's lack of care? I suppose we will have a better idea next week around this time.
Luke Hughes And The Cap
As it stands right now the Devils would be $3m over the cap when Luke Hughes is activated from LTIR. The youngest Hughes will be eligible to return tomorrow, February 28th, however due to continued malpractice and delinquency of duty on management's behalf that will not be able to take place without some sort of significant roster move. The silver lining, it doesn't really matter. While we'd love Luke to continue to gain experience while the games are of less consequence, losing and increasing our chances at Gavin McKenna doesn't sound all that bad either.
Sheldon Keefe
I've stuck up for Keefe for a while here. I don't think he's a bad coach. With that said, many things need to change in this organization. Is it his fault he rarely had a healthy squad his entire tenure? Is it his fault they've been a snake bit offense for most of the last three seasons? They seem to get their scoring chances most nights. On top of that, they're in most games until late in the third period. But the time for massive change has long passed and if it's the head coach, while I don't fully agree, I wouldn't be mad.
