This team is becoming the biggest joke in hockey. Every night we watch the clock tick away as we out chance every team, but outscore none of them. It’s so bad that I’m typing this with 12 minutes to go in the third. Games over. Game has been over since this inept roster left training camp.
No Matthews, no Nylander, no problem. This team never takes advantage of wounded opponents, not pregame, not in game. They never get the first goal, they never create and keep momentum, they rarely get a lead, they rarely get wins. We should all be tired of Bryce, Kenny and Don telling us in the third period that “it would be nice to get a goal, something positive to carry into next game”. It’s no longer time for moral victories. Heads must roll. Changes must be made.
This all falls on the back of Tom Fitzgerald and Dougie Hamilton. Fitzgerald needs to show balls and exile Dougie Hamilton if he continues to exercise his no trade clause. Hamilton is single handedly preventing this roster from taking the next step. The 6’6”, overpaid, softie has been the worst Devil on the ice all season. He was awful last year, way worse this year. I don’t need to list his deficiencies here again, but when it comes to hockey, Hamilton has been deficient in all categories.
Fitzgerald has been nearly as derelict in his duties. While injures have plagued this team the last few seasons, I find it hard to believe that any professional GM with this amount of young talent, signed at such great value, would do any worse. Fitz needs to force players like Hamilton and Palat to waive their NMC’s. While you can argue it would make him quite unpopular with players league wide, winning would make almost all forget about it. If he doesn’t, and fails to make the moves necessary to salvage this season, he can sign his own no move clause with his couch, because that’s where he will deservedly be watching games for a long time.
This team ruined Thanksgiving, ruined Christmas and will ruin New Year’s Eve with another shit performance tomorrow night. My resolution, to stop fooling myself into thinking this team can win; this team isn’t it. This core isn’t it. Happy fucking New Year…
