It has been four weeks since David Reinbacher was placed on injured reserve with a fractured metacarpal bone and there has not been much information about his recovery. Initially the team said the recovery process would be four weeks, but we are at that point, and it does not appear he will be playing anytime soon.
I really like Reinbacher, and the plan is for him to be a top four minute munching defenseman who can play in all situations. When he was drafted 5th overall in 2023 the Habs surely hoped he would have at least one AHL season under his belt, with the possibility of an NHL promotion at this juncture. As it stands now, this looks to be behind schedule also.
Reinbacher has only played in 34 AHL games, missing most of the 2024-2025 season due to a knee injury. All this is obviously concerning, as the last thing the Habs would want is for Reinbacher to be a habitually injured player. What really sucks is he's missing out on playing high minutes of pro hockey in Laval, severely hampering his development. Furthermore, having had two serious injuries in the last two years could also affect his confidence level and willingness to engage physically.
Again, the lack of information is concerning also, as perhaps Reinbacher is not progressing as the team initially believed he would and he is set to miss more significant time. Hopefully we get an update soon and Reinbacher can return to game action in early November!
