Lots of chatter over the last 24 hours as the Oilers and Flyers are about to drop the puck.
Last night rumors swarmed (from not only fake twitter accounts) that the Flyers and Oilers were discussing a major trade. The rumors of a done deal were way premature and here is what else I can add this afternoon (so far).
The Flyers aren't the only team discussing the trade with the Oilers (who made three moves last night). According to my sources, the NJ Devils, Flyers, and Hurricanes were all on speed dial last night and in separate talks the Rangers and Oilers have had heated discussions...
The Flyers and Devils want Eberle, but the price tag is way too high for either club. One source said it would take Simmonds, Voracek and Luke Schenn to even get close to prying Eberle away. That is a ton for one forward who is essentially Mike Richards with slightly more of a scoring touch.
I wasn't able to find out anything near the price the Devils would have to pay, but I was told..."It would take more than Lou would even consider."
Yet tha talks haven't been shut down. The name Hemsky was thrown in as well, but his contract is very difficult and unless the Oilers were to retain salary nothing would happen there...
The Canes apparently do have a bigger interest in Hemsky...
As for the Rangers...the talk there is surrounding a Yakupov + Hemsky deal...and such a deal will be more likely to occur a month from now I was told.
It of course should be noted the Oilers have made statements regarding Yakupov and Eberle weren't going anywhere.
So the question remains...
How far the distance is between making a statement like, "He will be here forever" and "We had no intention to move him but the offer made was too strong to not look at....we of course have to always be open to anything we feel can improve our team."
Meanwhile, the Flyers and Oilers are under way....
