Team USA defeated Germany 6-0 last night in preliminary play at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal. Goals scored by Dylan Larkin (Michigan, DET), who had two goals plus an assist and was named Player of the Game for USA, Auston Matthews (NTDP, DE16), Hudson Fasching (Minnesota, BUF), Sonny Milano (Plymouth, CBJ) and Jack Eichel, (BU, DE15), who scored on a beautiful wraparound.

USA effectively dominated puck possession and peppered German goaltender Ilya Sharipov with 53 shots on goal. When he was announced as the German Player of Game - and rightfully, so despite allowing 6 goals - the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Of concern for Team USA, they were 0-for-7 on the power play...in part, due to Sharipov's sick glove hand.

On the flip side, lots of love for the "Boys in Blue" as the four players from Michigan - undoubtedly pumped for their Wolverine teammates who defeated #5 Michigan Tech, 2-1, with a PPG in the third period to advance to the Great Lakes Invitational Championship Game earlier in the day - spent a lot of time on the ice together. Although they don't play together at Michigan, their chemistry and familiarity was quite apparent and gives head coach Mark Osiecki more options moving forward.

Team USA faces Slovakia - who lost 8-0 to Canada and defeated Finland 2-1 - today at 4pm ET. You can watch live on NHL Network or TSN.
