Patience Pays off Again at NHL Trade Deadline fo Minnesota Wild
I will fully admit my gut, heart, and mind was set on Ryan Kesler being the blockbuster addition for the Minnesota Wild at this year's NHL trade deadline. But I still came away impressed by the haul. General manager Chuck Fletcher again proved that he was able to keep intact his prized group of 20-something prospects while adding a player that should improve the team's chances in the Western Conference this year.
Matt Moulson is a player that began the season in Long Island playing on line with John Tavares, where he had enjoyed multiple 30-plus goal seasons for the New York Islanders. Moulson was traded to Buffalo in the Thomas Vanek deal where he quickly acclimated and was once again productive to include eight points in his last six games for the Sabres.
Moulson was acquired today by the Wild from the Sabres for a package of Torrey Mitchell, 2014 second round pick (Winnipeg pick from the Devin Setogucci trade) and a 2016 second round pick. Visions of Mikko Koivu with Moulson and Charlie Coyle are now dancing around my head. Sure Fletcher is nearly rebuilding the Sabres one draft pick/prospect at a time through trades but I am very impressed at how much Moulson may potential bring to the Wild this year and how little was sacrificed towards the future by this trade.
