The race for the #1 pick (Buffalo)

As you know, the Sabres have been playing better as of late, especially at home. They aren't getting wins consistently or putting together a big streak, but they've been getting points at a faster rate. Maybe too fast.

The race for the #1 overall draft pick is changing and it looks like Edmonton may win that race again.

Buffalo is ranked 30th in the league with 33 points, and the Oilers have 36, but Edmonton has played four more games. If the Sabres are going to tank, I think everyone would be hoping for that #1 pick.

There's plenty of hockey to played, but are the Sabres ruining their chance at landing the #1 pick?Even if they do finish last, all that does is give them the best chance.

Either way, Buffalo should be getting a nice, high slot in the draft order. Right now, I'm already hoping they get Sam Reinhart. Not to get ahead of myself, but if there's one guy on my radar, it's him.

He's exactly what the Sabres lack, and even if you believe Aaron Ekblad or any one else is a better option, Reinhart makes the most sense to me. There are other great options as well, but would Buffalo finally address that need for a legitimate first line center.

Of course it would take some time to properly develop Reinhart, but he's my pick. Some have the mindset of taking the best players, regardless of position.

What are your thoughts?

As always, thank you for reading!
