Record: 3-3-1
Standings: Seventh in the West with 7 points.
Which Means: Not good. The Coyotes sit tied with Edmonton for last in the division, only a point up on the basement dwelling Jets for last in the west. Unsurprisingly, the Coyotes have scored only 18 goals, which is last in the division and propped up by that time they scored 7 against the Oilers on October 15th.
Anaheim sets the pace currently with a 7-2 record and 14 points.
The Past Week: Tuesday: Lost to Predators in shootout, 4-3. Thursday: Shut-out by Wild, lost 2-0. Saturday: Beat Panthers 2-1 in OT.
Trends: In the last week we saw: - Boedker cool off after a hot start. - We saw Doan remain goaless, even though he's played really well, I think. - Yandle remain the teams lone driver of offense. - OEL pick his game up after a rough start. - Gagner record his first point, even though he too has played decently. - Justin Hodgman make his NHL debut and score his first goal.
Injuries: Hanzal remains out with a knee injury. He is skating and will probably be back very soon.
David Moss was injured blocking a shot against the Wild. People are calling this an "Upper Body Injury," even though it's clearly a hand. Again, I know why teams say this, but people in the media? Give me a break. HAND INJURY. Ok. Calm.
There's this narrative where Moss is a great player and is going to be missed. Qualification time: Moss is pretty good for a fourth line player and never makes glaring errors. So, in comparison to guys like Crombeen and Chipchura, he is a very good player. He, however, lacks the offensive skills to be truly effective in the NHL and if his injury opens the door to see what the Coyotes have in a player like Justin Hodgman, he will not really be missed all that much.
The Week Ahead: A busy 4 games going down this week. All of them on the road, which is good if anyone follows the Coyotes but lives on the East Coast. Just saying.
Tuesday : Lightning Thursday: Panthers Saturday: Hurricanes Sunday : Capitals
Let us hope to see a few wins here so that the team can remain competitive. It's going to be a tough week because the Lighning are an elite team at home, the Panthers just lost to the Coyotes, the Hurricanes can't lose every game and the Capitals have Ovechkin.
This will be a good test for the Coyotes. Anything less than 2-2 will seriously put them behind the pack however.
