And there it is, the smoking gun has been revealed. Sidney Crosby was indeed hurt during the postseason. So hurt that he will have to have surgery on his right wrist to fix the problem.
Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported the following
Sidney Crosby is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist within the next few days to repair damage that a source said impeded his performance in the postseason.The NHL MVP is not expected to miss any time next season, the source said. Crosby decided to have the operation only after therapy failed to correct the problem.
Crosby consistently denied during the playoffs -- and after -- that he was playing injured.
Remember all the bad passes from below the goal line, the fumbling of the puck when he was skating up the ice, the lack of drive towards the high traffic areas that we have all been accustomed to watching him do over the years?
Anybody who watched Crosby play these playoffs came to the same conclusion, he's not playing bad, he's still better than most, but he isn't his same dynamic self.
Instead of using the injury as some sort of crutch or excuse Crosby tried to rehabilitate it on his own through therapy away from the spotlight. The therapy didn't work and surgery is necessary at this point.
Instead of whining about something that had a significant impact on his play he took the criticism in stride and sat on his injury information.
He allowed himself to twist in the wind even though this information would shut a lot of people up.
So now that we have this information what does this tell us about Crosby?
Nothing we didn't already know, he is the best player on the planet, so much that he led the entire playoffs with a gaudy Fenclose percentage of 63.7% and he did it with one wrist.
Get the man a legitimate top 6 winger on his right wing, take him out of a shutdown center role, and watch him hit 130 points next year.
There is nothing wrong with Sidney Crosby, he is human, and he had an injury that requires surgery The best is still the best.
