Team Canada's Marie-Philip Poulin scored at 8:10 of overtime to beat the United States at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, capping an amazing comeback that saw them erase a two-goal deficit in the last 3:26 of the third period.
Meghan Duggan gave the Americans a 1-0 lead in the second period and Alex Carpenter scored a power play goal early in the third to lengthen the lead.
The US appeared to fall back into a defensive shell late in regulation, which Canada capitalized on, as Brianne Jenner's shot deflected off of USA blueliner Kacey Bellamy past goalie Jesse Vetter. With Canadian goalie Shannon Szabados pulled, Poulin scored her first of two goals with 55 seconds remaining to tie the game.
Szabados saved the game for Canada early in overtime, making a number of great saves to keep the game tied. The US had an lost an opportunity to win the game as Canada's Catherine Ward took cross-checking penalty, but Jocelyne Lamoureux was penalized just 6 seconds into the man advantage. Canada received a power play moments later as Hilary Knight pulled down Hayley Wickenheiser on a breakaway.
