At least we still have entertaining hockey to watch while the Sabres are in the midst of a rough season. It's still early, but the recent shakeup has helped maintain interest.
The home and home set with Toronto did nothing to hurt that. After what happened in the preseason, many had these past couple of games circled on their calendars.
It may not have been as good as the game in September, but there were still some action. John Scott attempted to make a clean check on Dion Phaneuf, but the Leafs defender bailed out and ended up hurting his leg because of it.
“All of a sudden I’m not allowed to hit him anymore. He’s Princess Phaneuf. It’s a joke.… - John Scott
I'm not a big fan of him in general, but I saw nothing wrong with what he did. Phaneuf can't take a hit and the Leafs fans get all upset because Scott went after him, cleanly.
It feels like the Sabres/Leafs rivalry has been renewed a bit and it's one of my favorites. The Sabres have become bigger rivals with Boston and Ottawa, but I've always enjoyed it more when they take on the Leafs. I would love to see these teams meet in the playoffs in the next few years.
