The Oilers made big waves early in Free Agency signing both Pouliot and Fayne to new deals.
The club announced that they signed Benoit Pouliot to a 5 year 20 Million dollar deal (4M Cap Hit) and Mark Fayne to a 4 year deal with a 3.5M Cap Hit
Edmonton has had rumoured interest on Fayne for a little while but Pouliot was someone that the stats guys have been pushing for a long time.
What's clear to me is that somebody in the Oilers' fancy stats department has found the ear of Craig Mactavish and that's why they have Purcell, Fayne, and Pouliot today. All 3 have above average to incredible fancies and push the river.
It's big money, but I think it's well spent.

UPDATE
Not long after the Oilers signed the two forwards they went after giant Defender Keith Aulie. This is a 1 year deal for a guy who might presumably be playing the 6/7 D spot.
