On Jaromir Jagr
Jagr was recently asked about potentially being traded and while he said he'd be happy to stay in New Jersey, he also said he'd be open to a trade if that's what Lou Lamoriello wants.
Whether that ends up being the case or not remains to be seen, but Jagr's play of late is certainly helping his trade value should the Devils pursue a trade around the deadline.
In his last two games Jagr has four points, eight shots and has led all players in even-strength scoring chances in both games with four and six respectively.
He's still very good in possession and he leads the team in scoring, so he clearly has some gas left in the tank. The Devils won't move him unless they get a good return (conditional 1st, 2nd/prospect, etc.) and if he continues to play like this that shouldn't be a problem.
On Jon Merrill
Over the last two games Merrill has logged over 45 minutes of ice and has certainly made the most of it. He didn't record a point in that span, but he posted impressive possession numbers in both games, and has been on for 15 even-strength scoring chances and just eight against over the two games. Obviously it's a small sample size, but those are encouraging numbers nonetheless.
On Adam Larsson
He wasn't great in possession against the Flyers - though he played primarily against the top line and didn't have many offensive zone starts - but Larsson's play of late has been very encouraging.
Over the last couple games he's played over 50 minutes, and he has an assist in that span as well. His confidence seems to be rising as he plays more, and Lou Lamoriello seems committed to giving him ice, so it'll be interesting to see his play continue to develop down the stretch.
As painful as this season has been for Devils fans, I think it'd be worth a bit of suffering if Larsson starts to develop into the player everyone thought he'd be, and the Devils are able to draft a high-end talent come June.
Scoring Chances
According to War-On-Ice.com's data, over 50% of all even-strength scoring chances were in favor of the Devils under Pete DeBoer this season. It's a small sample size, but since Lou Lamoriello and co. took over behind the bench the Devils are getting less than 47% of the even-strength scoring chances. That's something to watch going forward.
