If you watched the HockeybuzzCast yesterday, you'd know that I picked Montreal and Colorado to meet in the Stanley Cup Final....mostly because I was irritated at Ek, Josh and Mike with being boring in their selections, so I went "offboard." There was really very little hockey logic that went into my decision outside of the fact that I started with teams that had good goaltending. I just felt it would be a fun series to cover with all the off-ice story lines that would go with it. It's not the sexy pick, but whatever...it's not like these two teams are chopped liver and it's the playoffs, right?! Aren't we supposed to expect the unexpected?
So with that in mind, I'm picking my bracket based on the teams I'd like to see in a 7-game series because if we were really good hockey fans all year, the Hockey Gods should reward us and let every series go seven.
In the East, I'm going with Boston (even though I think this series is ripe for an upset) and Montreal in the Atlantic Division and Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in the Metropolitan Division because who wouldn't want to see either of those series' for seven games?!
In the West, I'm going with Colorado and Chicago and Anaheim (even though I think Dallas could force the upset) and Los Angeles. I'm clearly, all about the rivalries here....
In the conference finals, I'm going with Montreal and Philadelphia (too many French connections in Philadelphia + Briere make this an interesting potential series for me) and Colorado and Anaheim (youth vs experience).
All that said, I could care less if I'm wrong. As long as we are treated to an abundance of outstanding hockey, at least two seven game series, a legit goalie duel and one triple-overtime-thriller (although I'm not sure I could handle a 0-0, 3OT Game 7, wouldn't that be fun?!), I will be a happy camper.
What are you hoping to see from this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs?
