For the fourth consecutive game the Devils needed extra time to decide their fate, but on this night they made the most of it as Jon Merrill scored his 1st career goal to push the Devils past the Oilers.
This was sort of a weird game in that the shot totals and score would indicate a defensive struggle, but there was enough chances from both teams that it could have been a 5-4 game.
Cory Schneider wasn't peppered with shots, but he made several big stops en route to a 2-1 win where he stopped 19-20, marking the 12th time he's allowed two goals or less in his last 13 starts.
Tonight's win was big as it allowed the Devils to get within three points of a playoff spot. Another win tomorrow over a divisional opponent in the Capitals and they'll potentially crawl within a single point of a playoff spot.
It's an important game to say the least, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Schneider between the pipes once again.
