McCormick to miss 4-6 weeks (draft)

Jets. Bruins. Bruins again. Those are the three games the Sabres will play this week. Not expecting Buffalo to win more than one, but a home and home set against Boston should be entertaining to watch.

As long as the Sabres continue to show an honest effort for each game, I can't complain. They clearly need some help in the form of a legitimate #1 center, but they could get very lucky in the summer.

If the Sabres were to finish in last, and the Islanders don't defer the Sabres' pick and also finish low in the standings, Buffalo could have the 1st two picks in the 2014 draft. It would require some assistance from the Islanders for sure (and the lottery), but there's a decent chance of having that happen, or at least close to it.

Depending on whether the Islanders give the Sabres that pick for next year, or hold it until the year after, the Sabres could easily have two picks in the top five this year.

Just imagine Buffalo getting center Sam Reinhart and forward Michael Dal Colle, or something similar. The Sabres could get two very talented prospects extremely fast.

I'm getting ahead of myself with all this, but it's definitely something to think about. With the cap expected in increase next year as well, how to the Sabres address their needs? Who do they spend their money on and how much do they look to the draft to build a team from?

It's going to be real interesting to see how everything shapes up in Buffalo.

Meanwhile, the lines at practice this morning:

Foligno-Hodgson-D'Agostini Ott-Leino-Stafford Moulson-Ennis-Girgensons Scott-Adam-Ellis-Flynn

Cody McCormick was not on the ice. Following practice, head coach Ted Nolan said Cody McCormick, upper-body injury, will miss 4 to 6 weeks.

- The Sabres, Islanders and Flames are the only three teams remaining that have yet to win three consecutive games this season. I think it might be awhile before any of those three accomplish the feat...if at all.

- Alex Ovechkin has 27 goals on the season. The Sabres have seven in the first period and just 51 total.

As always, thank you for reading!
