The Toronto Marlies completed an impressive three game sweep of the Milwaukee Admirals with a 2-0 victory in front of 5691 fans at Ricoh Coliseum on Thursday night.
Greg Mckegg and TJ Brennan scored for Toronto and Drew MacIntyre made 29 saves for his sixth career playoff shutout, as the Marlies advance to the Calder Cup Western Conference Semi-Finals for the third straight season.
The contest was much different from first two games of the series, where the Marlies registered 11 goals in two victories in Milwaukee.
The opening 20 minutes was scoreless and relatively uneventful, as the Admirals outshot Toronto 11-8, but action picked up in the middle frame, when blueliner Andrew MacWillam laid out Milwaukee forward Calle Jarnkrok with a check at center ice that drew the ire of Admiral teammates.
The Marlies power play, which scored four times in Milwaukee, converted late in the second, as Jerry D’Amigo fed an open Greg McKegg at the side of the net for his first goal of the playoffs.
D’Amigo, who played 22 games for the Maple Leafs and scored 20 goals in 51 games for the Marlies during the regular season, leads AHL playoff scoring with six points.
Toronto could be off until Mother’s Day weekend, as only they and the Texas Stars have completed their first round series, which will allow injured forwards Peter Holland and Spencer Abbott to fully recover from injuries suffered late in the regular season.
