The worst kept secret (Thanks Ticketmaster) of the offseason is now official.
The Coors Light Stadium Series this year will include a game at the new home of the San Francisco 49ers between the San Jose Sharks and the LA Kings.
With a beautiful new state of the art stadium in Santa Clara and two teams that actually do have a pretty heated rivalry between each other...this one should be fun.
While the Ducks/Kings stadium game last year felt at times more like a novelty (at least to me) than a spectacle, this one will probably feel like something to see. The Sharks have been hounding the NHL since the Stadium Series games were announced and it looks like they have finally got what they wanted.
All I have to say to the San Jose Sharks is this:
MAKE YOUR UNIFORM A VARIANT OF THIS

Please. I beg of you.
Kings wear the forum blue and gold, and the Sharks wear a variant of the Golden Seals. Deal?
Now THAT would be something.
Call your congressman. Make it happen.
As far as the game itself goes, Levi's Stadium can seat up to 75,000 people. That is about 20,000 more than Dodgers Stadium with some better sight lines to boot. A new stadium, a great rivalry, and the fact that the NHL ice genius Dan Craig proved that California can host an outdoor game made this one a no brainer. And hey, more ticket sales and availability for those who want to see another California outdoor game. Good stuff right? It's plenty chilly in the February evenings in the bay area so I expect ice conditions to be fine.
Circle the date on your calendar folks, February 21st in Santa Clara. Should be a great one.
