After much anxiety from Flames fans that he signs, and hope from other fan bases that perhaps he doesn't, Johnny Gaudreau has made it official and signed a three year deal with Calgary worth an average of $1.85M, with the help of some signing bonuses.
His close friend and college teammate Bill Arnold also signed a deal with Calgary for $900k for two years. The Calgary Flames have officially signed two prospects who many fans were a little worried could possibly walk away.
Sigh of relief.
What’s more is that with the recent signing, Johnny Gaudreau, as I predicted and most were hopeful for, will get the chance to suit up with the Flames on Sunday night!
“I never thought I would get a chance to do something like that. If I’m playing Sunday, that would be a special time for me and my family and something that I always dreamed about it,… Gaudreau said.
“It would be an exciting night.…
In his most recent college season, Gaudreau has registered 80points in 40 games and has won the Hobby Baker Award. The 5’9, 160lbs 20 year old is a highly touted prospect for the Flames after such a successful college campaign, though his size remains concerning to some.
“He is a small player, but there are small players who are successful in our league,… said Brian Burke. “I think he’s got all the ingredients that he’s going to need to be successful. If you can play in our league at this size, I think Johnny Gaudreau can do it.…
Together the two prospects should bring much excitement to the fan base, but also to the organizational depth. While Johnny is small but very talented offensively, Arnold is larger at 6’0 218lbs and will offer much of the “truculence… which Burke aspires to bring in.
“Billy, he’s a great player and he’s even a better guy off the ice,… Gaudreau said. “It just makes it even more special to get to sign a pro contract with him and be a part of the same organization as him. I’m excited, and I’m sure a lot of people are excited to see him out there, as well, because he’s a phenomenal player and a great guy.…
The two have a rare chance to sign and join the Flames organization together, as friends and teammates. Congratulations to both and I’m sure many are excited to see "Johnny Hockey… hit the ice Sunday!
