Finally Kevin Cheveldayoff pulled off the the deal that no one thought would ever happen, a player for player(s) deal at the NHL level. It took almost 3 years but it happened today when he sent recently waived Eric Tangradi to Montreal for Peter Budaj and Patrick Holland.
It's a move that now leaves three goalies in camp with Pavelec Budaj and Hutchinson, the latter having a 2-way deal. The question remains as it is not an ELC and he was an RFA this past summer is he exempt from being claimed on waivers?
That is the critical point as the Jets have no need to carry three goalies. If he has to clear waivers to go to St. John's (something I beleive not to be accurate) then it appears there may be another move coming for the JEts GM as the youth in the goalie system includes Hutchinson, Helleybuck and Comrie. One might be expendable.
As for Holland it's not sure where he stands but certainly not on the roster for openning day. He only spent five games with the Habs last season and can only be looked at as a farm hand going forward.
For JEts fans there is a major insurance policy in place after Hutchinson looed average during the pre-season. That's a good thing but it's far from making the Jets a overly better team it is a step that has long been wondered about though. One that few thought the GM was willing to make as he defended his draft and develop model.
