For the first time this season the Islanders have won two games in a row. Also they completed wins on back to back night as the Isles defeated the Bruins 3-1. The Bo's had their chances and on a few occasions I have no clue how the puck stayed out of the net. However when you work as hard as the Islanders did last night sometimes you get rewarded for it. It was a total team effort and the results was some of the best defense the team has played all year.
New York goalie Kevin Poulin registered his first win of the season and the defense had a very good night. Poulin was solid and played well enough that he certainly merits more starts with the Isles playing four games in the next seven days.
The defense also had a good night especially Andrew MacDonald who played by far his best game of the year. There were limited turnovers and MacDonald chopped in with his first goal of the season.
The top line looks like it is starting to click as John Tavares and Thomas Vanek both scored. Vanek also had an assist and his two point night was matched by fellow line mate Kyle Okposo who added two helpers.
The Islanders now have some momentum as they embark on a four game road trip that starts in Washington D.C. on Tuesday night. With only six defenseman on the roster I expect someone to be called up from Bridgeport for the road trip. Speaking of the Sound Tigers they also had a perfect weekend winning in a shootout last night.
