If you are saying you knew the Islanders rookie squad would shut-out the Montreal Canadiens, I'd say you were lying.
But that is what happened after the 'pesky' Islanders kept the Habs off the board and Evgeni Nabokov kept them out of his net.
Thomas Vanek did NOT score on his ex-team mate and Brett Gallant took on George Parros and dropped hiim as well. The kid is making a name for himself in the NHL.
Douglas Murray took Johan Sundstrom into the boards head first in the second period which earned him a game misconduct and a five minute major. It also earned Sundstrom a trip to a Montreal hospital. He left the ice on his own power, but seemed to have been ill a few times before the trainer managed to get him off.
Losing Sundstrom only made the younsgers skate even harder, stunning the Candiens. Ryan Strome scored on the power play from that hit, but no one but Jiggs McDonald saw it immedaitely. They had to go to the replay to find that Strome's shot did indeed hit the inside of the net prior to hitting the post and ricoheting out again. Okay, maybe Ryan knew too.
Brock Nelson scored on a poer play at 19:40 of the second and that is where the score stayed.
Casey Cizikas and Matt Martin played well and with abandon even though, certainly the game meant nothing but pride.
Jack Capuano is being stretched far too thin with his bench. Losing Sundstrom, the perenial Bridgeport yo-yo doesn't do him any good either. But he never losing ihs cool. He shuffled his lines as best he could and crossed his fingers.
Josh Bailey received an assist point tonight, giving him the highest point total he has had in a season. Can you imagine what he'd do if he played on a consisten basis?
