I think one of the the things I miss the most from living back east is the fanatical passion for sports. That's not to say there are not passionate fans out here in California....there are...trust me. It's just that there are more of them in a closer proximity back east.
Living in California affords an individual the opportunity to engage in so many extra curricular activities. There is no NFL team in L.A. because nobody really cares. Attending a sporting event if often secondary to the many other things that could be done instead...i.e. the warm weather, beach, mountains, vineyards etc. etc. etc.
BUT....
The Anaheim Ducks have made hockey exciting and 'hip,' as the Kings did a couple of seasons ago. The Lakers are horrible and baseball hasn't started yet; giving the Ducks center stage and the full attention of all 'fans,' including the casual ones. Going to the Honda Center is an event these days and that will continue to be the case as long as, A. the team keeps winning and B., the team keeps winning at home.
Tonight the greatest show on home ice takes center stage ones again as the Anaheim Ducks host the Winnipeg Jets with the streak on the line.
A win tonight and the fun continues...a loss and its off to the mountains for a latte and a laugh.
