Just when the schedule can't look much worse, the Sabres embark on a trip to the west coast. The Sabres may be stuck with a pair of wins for a good span.
This is going to be another difficult month and I'm not sure Buffalo reaches four wins. I'm happy to see the Sharks and Kings, but it's probably not going to end well for the Sabres.
Ryan Miller has a history of success against San Jose, though. He is 6-1 with a .935 save percentage and a 1.97 goals against as well as two shutouts. I'd like to see him improve on those numbers again tonight, but this is a tough Sharks team.
San Jose is 10-1-3 and are averaging 3.71 goals per game, Buffalo is at a mere 1.56.
''We're facing a lot of adversity right now,'' Sabres center Cody Hodgson said. ''We can say as much as we want, but at the end of the day it's what we do on the ice. Right now it's not good enough.''
If the Sabres continue to lose like this, which I have come to expect, Darcy Regier isn't going to survive. I don't think any general manager should be able to keep their job during a season like this. I've talked about it before and understand there's a rebuild going on, but when you put together a team that's having it's worst start in franchise history, a change needs to happen. Lindy Ruff is already gone, so that leaves Regier.
Slapshot1106:The problem isn't the youth. That's just this year's excuse(as opposed to last year's injury excuse)... The veterans that Regier overrates are more of the problem, and will be much of his downfall.... Not just Kaleta, but other vets like Stafford, Leino, Myers, need to be traded(even for lesser value), waived, or given a change of scenery to get this team some credibility.. Why can't Regier just admit he had a bad sense of judgment and move on??
I still don't put the majority of blame on Rolston. He's trying to make do of what he's given. The Sabres aren't great, but no team is as bad as their record 2-12-1. I think Darcy gets until the end of November--or else.. I'm sure Cunneyworth will be brought in as interim coach, but when will Pegula finally say enough is enough???
This is the type of problem we have in Buffalo. I feel that the Sabres are always a young team, and that has been used over and over as an excuse. Except, that young team never seems to develop into a decent team. There have been a few good seasons, but after working on a team for so long like Regier has, we should be seeing positive results.
I don't think he makes it through the rest of the season. At this point, Buffalo needs to start making changes to improve the future of this team, and not on the ice. Regier and Rolston should both go.
I also want Regier to go just so we can stop talking about it. The problem wasn't the coach in Buffalo...
