After starting the season off with a pair of wins, Columbus has lost seven of their last nine games and have significantly dropped down the standings.
It's very early, obviously, but through 11 games they're already five points out of the playoffs. It's tough to gain a lot of ground on teams late in the year, so they best stay within striking distance if they want to make the postseason in consecutive years for the first time in franchise history.
The good news for the Jackets through all these injuries and losses that have continued to pile up is that help is finally on the way.
Forwards Boone Jenner and Matt Calvert will both be in the lineup Tuesday, according to Aaron Portzline.
That help is much needed, obviously, and it comes at a good time with two very winnable games coming up against a very poor Hurricanes team.
If the Jackets can pick up a couple wins it'll be a big confidence boost and should put them on the brink of a playoff spot with several bodies inching towards their respective returns.
Again, it's still early, but it's important for Columbus to limit the damage and crawl out of this hole before they are in one too deep to dig their way out of.
