The Islanders have placed goalie Jaroslav Halak on the injured reserve list, retroactive to December 20th. In place of Halak, the Isles have recalled goalie Kevin Poulin from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. I will have more on this when news becomes available and I will update this thread with rosters for tonight's game later today.
UPDATE: Islanders' Head Coach Jack Capuano has announced that Kevin Poulin will start in goal tonight for the Isles as they are in Buffalo to take on the Sabres. While the Isles are telling you that this is Kevin's chance to step and show something, I believe this shows you how much faith the team has in backup goalie Chad Johnson.
While Johnson wasn't awful against Montreal, he simply does not look like the goalie that was successful in Boston last season and the Isles are not in a position to wait out his rough patch. Kevin Poulin has been good in Bridgeport and I honestly believe that if he plays well, he may force the Isles and take the backup up goalie job.
I have said all year long that competition is good for the team. We have seen it with the forwards as the emergence of some of the Isles young forwards have pushed out the placeholders. This is Poulin's time to see if he can step up and potentially win the job with some strong play between the pipes. There are no other lineup changes tonight as the forward lines and defensive pairings will remain the same.
