Grigorenko not traveling to Montreal (Sabres)

Last night's game against the Rangers was pretty much what I expected. The Sabres just cannot score. Lundqvist came up big and was aggravated that he didn't get the shutout.

It was a one goal game for Buffalo, and not that they lost by one...but that they managed to score only one.

The Sabres have already been shutout five times in 29 games this season and are scoring at a franchise-worst rate.

I got stuck watching the Rangers feed last night, but was pleasantly surprised to see Pat LaFontaine being interviewed during the intermission. He answered some questions that resulted in a little more info than what we knew.

LaFontaine when asked if Nolan could be Sabres coach beyond this year: "I think so. I think he has a great opportunity in front of him."

I could see Nolan behind the bench after this season. It's been just a short time, but things are moving in a positive direction and the players actually want to play for him. If he continues to do what he has, I think the Sabres will keep him.

Will there be better options? Probably. But will the Sabres choose to go with someone else or stick with Nolan? It's way too early and the Sabres have other things to worry about, but it is something that will come up in April.

You couldn't tell that the Sabres were coming off of four days of rest. It didn't matter. I still think they have been playing better and I saw some things in last night's game that were signs of improvement.

Despite the defensive collapse, I like that Tyler Myers moved up on a play. He looked like the Myers from his rookie year. His play has improved, but then he had a mental lapse on one of the Rangers goal.

Since Nolan took over, the effort has been better, but there is still no offense. Maybe if the Sabres could get a true No. 1 center, that would be a good start.

The Sabres tweeted this today: "Grigorenko will not travel with Sabres to Montreal. Teammates wished him luck as he packed for world juniors where he will represent Russia."

As always, thank you for reading!
