Game notes:
- After a mediocre season debut, Larsson has really settled in and been one of the Devils' better defensemen of late. He's been a positive possession player in every game and, though he only has one goal to show for it, has done a nice job of creating chances from the back end.
- Cory Schneider allowed three goals last night, but only seven pucks have gotten by him in his last four starts. He's really starting to play well and at the right time as the Devils, for the most part, have struggled to score with this depleted lineup.
- Detroit's defense doesn't wrack up a ton of points, but they're loaded with mobile players who can move the puck, and that has really helped them in possession. They move the puck quickly and like to push the pace, so the Devils will need to get on the forecheck quickly to disrupt their outlets.
- Jimmy Howard doesn't get much credit, but he's quietly developed into one of the league's best goaltenders in recent years. He has a sparkling .928SV% and 1.96 goals against average in 10 games this year, and has allowed two goals or less in eight of those games.
- New Jersey has done a good job staying disciplined of late, but they've still been allowing power play goals almost every night. Detroit's power play has really struggled this year, so if there were ever a time to get back on track this would be it.
