I feel most believe that this was coming, however it's not an easy move for a guy like Brian Burke, who works closely with Jay, not only in Calgary, but for the USA Hockey team.
Burke will take over as interim GM but already has contacted another team about permission to talk to someone...could be Rick Dudley. Could be Ron Hextall.
In the meantime, I think Joe Nieuwendyk could be a strong candidate. He did a good job overall in Dallas (despite being unable to get into the playoffs) in a tough period for that franchise and deserves another shot. Also, he has the obvious cache in Calgary.
