Emelin Fined, Not Suspended #MontrealTypical (sabres)

Montreal Typical.

Their knucklehead D Alexei Emelin has been fined $11,021.51 for an illegal check to the head of Buffalo Sabres captain Brian Gionta

Emelin had a hearing today with the NHL Department of Player Safety.

So, in other words, what the NHL is saying is that its okay for lazy D men to deliberately target the head of opponents.

Emelin violated Rule 48, yet still skates away from the scene of the crime with a whack across the wallet.

NHL to 735 NHLPA members:

Its okay to illegally hit your opponent in the head. Be ready to pay a fine.

Okay?

Stephane Quintal and Chris Pronger failed miserably on this ruling. A head shot is a head shot. Period. Hits to the head are not negotiable. NHL justice is a joke.

Buckle your chin straps because I think we're going to a Sabres team fighting mad to defend their captain tonight in Part Deux tonight on Hockey Night In Canada.

Bad news for the Ottawa Senators.

Power forward Bobby Ryan fractured a finger when he was slashed on Friday night.

Ryan has 5 goals and 13 points in 21 games played this season.

Fractured fingers generally require 4-6 weeks to heal properly. The Sens have not given a time table for Ryan's return.

Losing Ryan will create a huge hole on the top line.

Sens GM Bryan Murray may want to call his nephew Tim to inquire about one of two pending UFA forwards Drew Stafford or Chris Stewart.
