Super sniping centerman Jack Eichel left an indelible thumbprint on the city of Buffalo. On Thursday night, he captivated the imaginations of Sabres fans by scoring a sexy snipe and adding an assist as Team Grier defeated Team Olczyk 6-3 at the third annual CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game. Once again, the city of Buffalo and the Buffalo Sabres were gracious and hospitable hosts.
After a scoreless first period, Team Grier’s Alec Baer opened the scoring in the second. The teams combined for five goals in the second period, and Team Grier went into the third, leading 3-2. Team Grier scored three straight goals in the third, and then Team Olczyk capped the game scoring, making the final score 6-3.
Sabres winger Drew Stafford presented Eichel with the player of the game award.
As Eichel departs Buffalo to join his Boston University Terriers for their 2014-15 season, his memory remains in Buffalo. Who knows, Eichel may become a Sabres at next June's NHL Draft.
