The Anaheim Ducks did what the Anaheim Ducks had to do in order to dispatch the New York Islanders in front of a lively crowd at the Honda Center on Monday night.
After falling behind 2-1 to the lowly Metro Division opponent, the Ducks used highlight reel goals from Andrew Cogliano, Cam Fowler and Corey Perry to pull ahead and cruise to an easy 5-2 win.
On any other night the Cogliano and Fowler goals could have stood on their own as highlight reel material, but what Perry did was something special.
Here, take a look.
Perry would add a power play goal in the third period to reach 20 already this season. The Ducks star has goals in seven of his last eight games and is on pace to pot 50 goals for the second time in his career. Corey is a streaky scorer and he's a long shot to hit 50 again, especially with the amount of talent in the Pacific and in the West. It will be fun to watch him try though.
Other notables...
- Cam Fowler had a goal and an assist. He now has 14 points in his last 17 games.
- Daniel Winnik had three assists including a precision behind the back, through the legs, gift to Cogliano for the easy tap in.
- Saku Koivu scored just his third goal of the year.
- The Islander have lost 10 games in a row (0-8-2).
- Nick Bonino picked up a point in his third consecutive game. Bones has at least a point in eight of his last 10 games.
- Ryan Getzlaf did not score a goal, but did have an assist to stretch his scoring streak to 14 games.
- Despite the five goal outburst by his team, Teemu Selanne did not register a point...again.
- Jonas Hiller made 35 saves and improved to 11-4-4 on the year.
- My daughter was at the game and was shown with her friend on the scoreborad. So yeah, that was cool.
